Manipulation and/or mobilisation of the spine and other joints of the body are passive, hands on techniques applied to the involved joint by your physiotherapist. These techniques are often combined with other treatment methods. They aim to reduce pain, increase range of movement within the joint and restore normal functioning.
During mobilisations of a joint, your physiotherapist will apply slow, gentle movements within the joint’s normal range of motion. On the other hand, manipulating a joint, involves using short, forceful movements at the end range of the available motion.
